Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking can be emailed to Carol Pinto-Smith at cpinto-smith@triblive.com or mailed to Briefly Speaking, 210 Wood St., Tarentum, PA 15084. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.

• YMCA Westmoreland County will offer English as a Second Language Classes at the center, 424 N. Main St., Greensburg. Students will also learn about American culture and holidays. Classes will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 6 to Dec. 15. An adult literacy program also is available. Details: ywcawestmoreland.org.

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 1 and 15 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.

• A car show to benefit First United Church of Christ, Mt. Pleasant will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Koscuiszko Club, 225 N. Depot St., Mt. Pleasant. There will be music and food. Donations will be accepted in lieu of a vehicle entry fee. Awards will be presented at 4 p.m. Details: 724-880-8337.

• Herminie Center for Active Adults will have a car show and 25-cent bingo from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 3 at the center, 101 Sewickley Ave., rear. Vehicle entry fee: $5, includes lunch and a goodie bag. There will be a basket auction, 50/50 raffle and rip tickets. Due to space limitations, reservations are recommended to display your vehicle. Reservations: 724-446-3282.

• Latrobe Lions Club will conduct its fall broom sale from 10 a.m. to noon or until sold out Sept. 3 in the Lincoln Road Shopping Center, 606 Cedar St., Latrobe. Cost: heavy duty, $13; regular, $11; long handle whisk, $6; traditional whisk, $5, all made by the Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh. Profits provide help for the blind and other community services.

• St. Barbara Parish, Penn Township, will host its monthly bingo at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 7 at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. Paper packages start at $27. • The Mon Valley Paws Pet Walk and vendor show will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Monessen City Park walking track. Admission: $10. • West Newton Public Library, 124 N. Water St., is accepting jewelry donations for next year’s jewelry sale. Donations can be dropped off during operating hours, noon to 5 p.m. Monday and Thursday, noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at the library. Details: 724-633-0798.

• Greensburg Garden Center will meet at 11 a.m. Sept. 6 at the center, 951 Old Salem Road. Bring a perennial, house plant, seeds or anything from your garden for the plant auction. Refreshments will be served.

• South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave. The program will be about colonial coins. There will be a 50/50 raffle and prizes for children. Public welcome. Membership applications are being accepted. Details: 724-984-6611.

• Local chapters of the Women’s Business Network have scheduled meetings. Those attending can learn how the group supports the success and growth of women in business. • The Jeannette Business Association and Elliott Group will sponsor a concert from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Elliott Group Amphitheater. The featured group will be Saddle Up. Bring a lawn chair. Food trucks and a beer garden will be on the 400 and 500 blocks of Clay Avenue and South Fifth Street. Rain or shine. No pets, skateboards or bicycles permitted.

• The Laurel Harmony Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines based in Greensburg, will have an open house to welcome new members from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 139 N. Main St., Greensburg. Use the side door on the lower level. Women of all ages and voice ranges are welcome. No experience required.
